Le cyanamide calcique CN2Ca se prépare par chauffage au four électrique du carbure de calcium C2Ca en présence d'azote. Outre sa transformation en cyanamide, le cyanamide calcique est un engrais azoté intéressant, puisque l'action de l'eau le transforme lentement en chaux et en ammoniac.
